Suzy Broadbent

Suzy Broadbent is a Fellow of the CIEHF with twenty years experience working in Human Factors across defence, rail and healthcare domains. Suzy started her human factors career at Atkins working on CIRAS, the confidential reporting system for the railways, before transferring into the Station Management Team in London working on Underground station modernisation programme. From there she moved to BAE Systems Air in Lancashire where she became HF lead on upgrade programmes for the Tornado and Eurofighter Typhoon and on interoperability for F35. In 2017 Suzy was seconded into the Air Research and Technology team for three years investigating future technologies for combat systems such as eye tracking and psychophysiology - techniques for which she has become a leading proponent within the HF community. Following this Suzy took over management of the Human Factors Shared Service, an internal consultancy of approximately 25 human factors engineers. Suzy continued to do technical work, predominantly on Tempest, the future combat air system, evaluating technologies and researching the future role of the operator in the field of Human Performance Enhancement, for which she was appointed Licensed Technologist across the Air Sector.

In 2021 Suzy moved into the Healthcare sector and is now a National Investigator with the Healthcare Safety Investigations Branch, who improve patient safety through effective and independent investigations that don’t apportion blame or liability.
